LIONS DAY WITH THE UNITED NATION “LDUN”

A CELEBRATION OF “PEACE, FRIENDSHIP AND INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING”

Hosted by the Financial District Lions Club (NY FiDi Lions)

Friday March 3, 2023 – More than 100 Lions' members from around the world came together to celebrate "Friendship and International Understanding" on Lions Day with the United Nation. Hosted by the Financial District Lions Club since 2013, the guests were entertained by NY FiDi Lions members who are world renowned opera singers, and Master of Ceremonies was Brig. Gen. (Ret) Sidney Baumgarten, President to the Financial District Lions Club.

The event took place at Angeletto, 890 Second Avenue in New York City, near the United Nations. Guests enjoyed the authentic Italian cuisine of Chef David and the evening performances. During the event, NY Fidi Lions raised a total of $1,020 to support Lions Clubs International Foundation humanitarian services for the war in Ukraine. Terry Paladini-Baumgarten, Vice District Governor for D20-R2 (2022-2024) presented a check for the amount collected to Douglas Alexander, Chair to Lions Clubs International Foundation. International President Brian Sheehan was given a banner of photos of the Blind Baseball players who represented the United States at the first WBBC International Blind Baseball competition in the Netherlands last August 2022 and won the bronze medal in a 4 to 1 match against Germany.

Lion Braulio Thorn, Public Relations Chair and Lion Robert Weeks, both from the NY LIONS Adaptive Blind Baseball team, handed the flag to President Sheehan who was very grateful and said, "I look forward to seeing you play, and the opportunity to play a game with you". During the event, Thom Span (musician, Emmy Award-winning composer, Sesame Street producer and member of USO Show Troupe) and Bonnie Lee Sanders who Composed the song “Little Children” for Lions’ was introduced for all to sing along.

The celebration of "Friendship and International Understanding" event started in 2013 under the leadership of Lion Terry Paladini, First Vice District Governor 2023-2024 to D20-R2 and NY FiDi Lions founder and Charter President.

Venerdì 3 marzo 2023 - Più di 100 soci Lions di tutto il mondo si sono riuniti per celebrare "Amicizia e comprensione internazionale" in occasione della Giornata Lions con le Nazioni Unite. Ospitati dal Financial District Lions Club dal 2013, gli ospiti sono stati intrattenuti dai soci Lions di NY FiDi, cantanti d'opera di fama mondiale, e il Maestro di Cerimonia è stato il Brig. Gen. (Ret) Sidney Baumgarten, Presidente del Financial District Lions Club.

L'evento si è svolto presso Angeletto, 890 Second Avenue a New York, vicino alle Nazioni Unite. Gli ospiti hanno apprezzato l'autentica cucina italiana dello chef David e gli spettacoli serali. Durante l'evento, i Fidi Lions di New York hanno raccolto un totale di 1.020 dollari per sostenere i servizi umanitari della Fondazione Lions Clubs International per la guerra in Ucraina. Terry Paladini-Baumgarten, Vice Governatore Distrettuale per il D20-R2 (2022-2024) ha consegnato un assegno per la somma raccolta a Douglas Alexander, Presidente della Fondazione Lions Clubs International. Al Presidente Internazionale Brian Sheehan è stato consegnato un banner con le foto dei giocatori di baseball non vedenti che hanno rappresentato gli Stati Uniti alla prima competizione internazionale di baseball per non vedenti WBBC, svoltasi nei Paesi Bassi lo scorso agosto 2022, vincendo la medaglia di bronzo in una partita 4 a 1 contro la Germania.

Il Lion Braulio Thorn, Presidente delle Pubbliche Relazioni e il Lion Robert Weeks, entrambi della squadra di baseball adattata per ciechi dei NY LIONS, hanno consegnato la bandiera al Presidente Sheehan che, molto grato, ha detto: "Non vedo l'ora di vedervi giocare e di avere l'opportunità di giocare una partita con voi".
